History

The name of the Brech dal Vern comes from the Occitan dialect and means “alder highland”. Our mountain hut was founded in 1990 as part of a project conceived and realised by Ermanno Bressy. At that time he was the president of the Comunità Montana Valle Maira (Mountain Community Maira Valley), which will create later on the Percorsi Occitani. The idea was to realise a loop trail that would allow hikers to rest at a stop-off point (posto tappa) every 5 hours of walk.
In those years there was nothing like that in our valleys. In the beginning, the idea was to find families that were willing to welcome the hikers into their villages and to share with them Maira Valley’s nature, history and culture.
Our Brec dal Vern was soon followed by other similar experiences. The project grew rapidly thanks to the collaboration between the inhabitants of the Valley and went beyond national borders with the arrival of the Snaider family, which increased the influx of tourists from Northern Europe.

Our property features both private rooms in B&B style and dormitories. It has a total of 20 beds. We offer breakfast, lunch and dinner upon request.
